This is a site I have put together to support my teaching of Management Accounting at different levels at different institutions.

The aim of the site is to provide resources to support your understanding of what I find to be a fascinating topic.

Take a look also at my associated Facebook page – Management Accounting Info https://www.facebook.com/manaccinfo – where there are regular posts of news items relevant to the study of Management Accounting.

Introducing myself.

I am a qualified accountant (ACCA) and researcher (MSc. Accounting) and have been working in universities since 2000 as a Management Accounting specialist.

Management Accounting is all about the efficient operation of businesses and I use my knowledge to help businesses increase their profits by building income and reducing costs. I have helped many small businesses, charities and student enterprises with using Management Accounting principles to improve their performance.

I have taught Management Accounting to undergraduate and postgraduate students to understand the issues and achieve their qualifications.

Employability.

I strongly believe that going to university is about developing your ability to think and is not specifically about getting a particular job.

That might sound strange when I teach on an Accounting degree, but I studied Zoology with no expectation of ever using it directly in employment – it is my interest, not my profession.

It is unlikely that you will have a career doing one thing, but you can take the skills you develop in one employment to others.

I’ve done a number of things in my career. Can you guess?

Employers feel that graduates often lack ’employability skills’. Universities try to give you the opportunity to develop these too, but really, it is up to you.

Understanding the context of your subject will help make your knowledge more relevant which is why I publish this website and Facebook posts. If you know the techniques and why and when they would be used, you will be better able to benefit from your degree.

Important as we start a new semester to remember that it isn’t just technical knowledge that you need to be successful in your career.
